NOTES is an experiment from Systems Design Lab in building community through learning in public.
Each issue delivers a thoughtful mix of wonderings/musings, books we’re reading, and other media we are taking in that are influencing our work.
You’ll hear from our team, learn about who we are and what we care about, and get a window into how we think and work together.
You’ll learn about communities where folks apply systems thinking and human-centered design practices.
We’ll discuss topics we’re curious about, such as transitions, complexity, coordination, and emergence.
We’ll explore the tools we use, what we’re reading, and the artifacts and lineages that guide our practice.
Published every Wednesday, NOTES is about to be your next favorite read to get your creativity flowing about social system change. Ready to explore?

About Systems Design Lab
We help social sector organizations use systems thinking and human-centered design to collaborate, innovate, and amplify their community impact. You can learn more about our practice and our services on our website.

Based in the Northeastern United States, our team met working in the education sector. We took a break to explore our own interests — from anthropology to motherhood to business school — and then came back together to build an eclectic, human-centered toolkit for supporting social sector organizations. At SDL, we are proud to use technical tools, but we focus most on the people. We say that we harness the power of people, and that’s not just a catchy phrase. We are a curious, kind, joyful bunch that is excited to connect with others interested in analyzing how to do better at doing good. Read more about our individual backgrounds here.
